Leaders VS Covid-19: Key Steps for Employee Wellbeing & Maximum Productivity

Covid-19, the famous virus has so far spread to over 185 countries affecting almost more than 18 million people and claiming the lives of more than 700,000 people. But let us think about this, this way aside from the massive loss of lives that the pandemic has brought in, businesses are shutting down, a global crisis in the market is taking place having long-term implications that will affect our daily lives for years to come.

Let us go through the key actions that major Organizations have so far applied in protecting their workforce’s physical and mental health from the severe impacts of the pandemic.

Twitter: Remote Mode ON

What started out as a necessary program to stem the spread of Covid-19, companies required their employees to work from home.

According to Forbes Twitter was one of the first Organizations that have encouraged its employees to work remotely, making first US corporation to promote.

EY: Recruitment Made Virtual

When it comes to University recruitment, the Big 4 Organization was one of the first to claim that they have gone virtual on some of the key parts of their recruitment process as a way to lessen the spread of the pandemic.

Google: Travel Bans In Place

Ever since the first steps within the pandemic the tech giant took immediate measures, the grand tech conference I/O which bring together over 7,000 people each year was cancelled.

“Out of concern for the health and safety of our developers, employees, and local communities — and in line with “shelter in place” requirements by the local Bay Area government — we sadly will not be holding an I/O event in any capacity this year.”, Google, Public Statement

The conference is just an example, from introducing a fund that enables all workers to take paid leave from minimizing the google perks, the Tech giant was one of the exhibitors of good practice during the pandemic.

Amazon: $25 Million Relief Fund for Delivery Drivers, Seasonal Employees Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

According to CNBC, Amazon is launching a $25 million relief fund for delivery drivers and seasonal workers amid the coronavirus outbreak, it announced March 11. The aim is to help employees "that are under financial distress during this challenging time," the company said. The fund includes it’s Amazon Flex drivers as well as its seasonal employees, who help the company manage variation in customer demand during holidays and peak periods. Amazon will allow these employees to apply for grants that are equal to up to two weeks of pay if they're diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

According to Lee Murphy, who leads the people consultant team at Google Asia Pacific in Singapore, digital transformation is one of the key shifts in today’s market. That is, organizations focus on technology to stay connected and continue to be productive during the pandemic.

The widespread availability and ease of use of technologies to collaborate and stay in constant contact, such as Zoom, Slack, Google Hangouts and others, enabled people to smoothly adapt to the new setup.

Think about it this way, for the companies that previously lacked the infrastructure or were not yet ready to make the transition to the digital know-how Covid-19 can work as a pivotal turning point to reimagine the workplace and realise the benefits of collaborative, cloud-based solutions for their workplace.
